UEFA EURO 2024: Get to know the final 16 teams

There are 16 teams competing for victory in the UEFA EURO 2024 event, which has reached the knockout round. The teams who advanced to the round of sixteen are broken down as follows:

Germany:

Spain:

England:

-Group C champions

-Performance thus far: England led Group C after two victories and a draw while showcasing hints of their offensive capabilities. They intend to surpass their runner-up position from EURO 2020.

Denmark:

-Runners-up in Group C

-Thus far: Denmark has shown resiliency and talent throughout, emerging from Group C after three draws. Their goal is to equal or surpass their performance in the EURO 2020 semifinals.

Austria:

-Group D winners

-Performance thus far: After overcoming formidable opponents like Poland and the Netherlands, Austria surprised everyone by taking first place in Group D. They want to go farther than they have in order to create history.

-Next up: on July 2, Austria takes against Türkiye in Leipzig.

France:

-Runners-up in Group D

-Performance thus far: Despite losing to Austria, France placed second in Group D and is still a formidable threat because to their outstanding team. This time, they are committed to going all the way.

-Next match: On July 1, Belgium will play France in Düsseldorf.

Belgium:

-Runners-up in Group E

-Belgium had a patchy start to the competition, but they have nevertheless advanced to the European Championship knockout stage for the third time in a row. Star player Kevin De Bruyne has occasionally displayed his genius, but they have France to face in the round of 16.

-Next match: On July 1, Belgium will play France in Düsseldorf.

Georgia:

-In Group F, third place.

-How enlightening Georgia has been! They made an appearance in their first significant international competition, and their lively attacking football style lit up the competition. The triumph over European giants Portugal was the high point, as star player Khvicha Kvaratskhelia scored and performed brilliantly all game long. Watching Willy Sagnol's crew has been a complete pleasure.

-Next match: On June 30, in Cologne, Georgia will play Spain.

Netherlands:

-Group D's third position

-The Netherlands' start has been uneventful. The Oranje started the tournament with a fantastic comeback win against Poland, and they went on to preserve a clean sheet in a goalless draw with France before suffering a devastating 3-2 loss to Austria that left them as one of the better third-place teams. Cody Gakpo, who has scored two goals so far, has been a shining light.

Portugal:

-Group F champions

-Portugal started well in Germany, winning both of their matches against Türkiye and Czechia in dramatic fashion. Then, in a game they could afford to lose and ultimately did, Roberto Martínez had the luxury of rotating his players against Georgia. In his quest to score in six straight tournaments, Cristiano Ronaldo has not yet opened his account.

Romania:

-Group E champions

-For the first time in twenty-four years, Romania advanced to the EURO knockout round, and they did so with flair, taking first place in Group E. Highlights were their 3-0 triumph over Ukraine, as Edward Iordănescu's team performed brilliantly offensively in front of their devoted Munich supporters. Their current objective is to match or surpass that renowned EURO 2000 squad, who advanced to the quarterfinals before losing to Italy.

Slovakia:

-Group E's third position

-With an early goal from Ivan Schranz, Slovakia stunned the odds and defeated Belgium in their opening match. They lost to Ukraine after that, but they persevered to get a point against Romania and, as one of the better third-placed teams, a spot in the knockout stages. Anybody facing Francesco Calzona's team will have a difficult task.

Slovenia:

-Group C's third position

-For the first time, Slovenia has advanced to the EURO knockout stage, and the scenes of raucous celebration following their draw with England demonstrated the significance of the achievement for the nation. The formidable Benjamin Šeško and the seasoned Jan Oblak in goal make the Reprezentanca a formidable opponent for defenders.

Turkey:

-Runners-up in Group F

-Turkey began the tournament with a victory against Georgia in Dortmund in a contest that had everything. It was one of the most interesting games of the competition. In the same arena, Vincenzo Montella's squad lost to Portugal, but they survived their third match against a ten-man Czech team, winning late thanks to Cenk Tosun.
