Day 2- A trio of games

Switzerland v Hungary

Group A

Switzerland won their opening Euro 2024 encounter against Hungary, 3-1. Switzerland's goals came in the 13th, 45th, and 90+3rd minutes from Kwadwo Duah, Michel Aebischer, and Breel Embolo. Hungary, on the other hand, only managed to score once in the 66th minute, thanks to Barnabas Varga. Switzerland put on a strong effort in the contest, with Embolo making an impression as a replacement.

Switzerland dominated the game for much of it, demonstrating their on-field dominance. Despite a brief time in which Hungary improved and scored a goal, Switzerland's overall performance was impressive. The precise passing move that led to Duah's goal was especially noteworthy, with a series of 22 passes ending in a stunning finish.

Breel Embolo's involvement to the match was vital, particularly his goal in stoppage time, which clinched Switzerland's win. His ability to seize opportunities and make an impact despite limited playing time due to injury demonstrated his value to the squad.

Overall, Switzerland's victory over Hungary gave them a great start in Euro 2024, placing them in Group A with Germany.

Italy v Albania

Group B

Italy, recognised for its great football tradition and excellent national team history, went into the match against Albania with high hopes. The Italian squad was most likely made up of seasoned players and developing prospects looking to make an impression in the tournament and compete for European glory.

Albania, a team with its own distinct football character, would have entered the encounter against Italy with zeal and a desire to establish themselves against a difficult opponent. Albanian players would have wanted to demonstrate their abilities and compete at their peak level in the EURO 2024 competition.

The match between Italy and Albania in Euro 2024 finished with Italy winning 2-1. Nedim Bajrami of Albania scored the quickest goal in tournament history, putting Albania ahead after only 23 seconds. However, Italy answered with goals from their players, resulting in a final score of 2-1 for Italy.

In the last stages of the game, Italy retained possession and held off Albania's attempts to equalise. The referee sounded the final whistle, indicating Italy's victorious start to their championship defence campaign.

Spain v Croatia

Group B

Spain defeated Croatia 3-0 in their first match of Group B at UEFA Euro 2024, with goals from Alvaro Morata, Fabian Ruiz, and Dani Carvajal.

Spain had a dominating lead in the first half, with Morata scoring after Fabian Ruiz set him up. Ruiz then extended the advantage with a low drive that deflected off Josip Sutalo. Carvajal scored his third soon before halftime with a poacher's goal from outside the box.

Croatia had chances in the second half, with Lovro Majer coming close to equalising but missing from close range. Ivan Perisic also had a goal disallowed for encroaching.

Several disputed situations occurred during the match, including a penalty call against Rodri for a challenge on Bruno Petkovic and Spain's double substitution of two Mikels (Merino and Oyarzabal). Croatia made their own replacements, with Mario Pasalic and Luka Sucic replacing Luka Modric and Mateo Kovacic.

Despite dominating possession, Croatia struggled to produce clear-cut opportunities and eventually went home empty-handed. The setback is not catastrophic to their tournament chances, but the defeat might present difficulties if they finish third in the group.
